African swine fever has spread to Indonesia, where nearly 30,000 pigs have died in North Sumatra. Rabobank expects Vietnam's pork output to fall 21% this year and China's herd to drop about 55%.
Several other Asian countries, including the Philippines, have also reported outbreaks.
Large Asian herd losses raise import demand for pork and pork products, which supports US hog prices. Lower regional pig numbers also reduce feed demand, which weighs on corn and meal.
