Smithfield Foods launched a program offering oat and wheat contracts to farmers delivering to its Allerton and Davis City elevators in south-central Iowa. It includes a $25 per acre cover-crop cost-share through Practical Farmers of Iowa.
A new local contracted demand channel for small grains is marginal to national prices but adds some regional oat and wheat demand.
