Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture published ZARC climate-risk zoning ordinances allowing corn intercropped with brachiaria to be planted in Piauí and Maranhão for the 2019/2020 harvest, making these crops eligible for insurance. The zoning was approved via ordinances dated December 17, 2019.
Insurance eligibility may encourage planting of intercropped corn in northeast Brazil, a small addition to domestic feed grain supply with negligible price effect.
