The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service began daily monitoring of food prices on March 23, with sunflower oil among the products watched. World sunflower oil prices fell to about $620 per tonne, a record low since 2008, while domestic seed prices in Russia rose as the weaker ruble lifted offers.
Record-low world sunflower oil prices tied to weaker oil markets are being partly offset by ruble-driven domestic increases, and government price monitoring could add policy pressure on Russian oil prices.
