Nearby sunflower prices held firm in early March, bucking the downward trend in wheat, corn and soybeans, as tight supplies and steady crusher and confectionery demand supported values. The National Sunflower Association also noted that analysts had cut Argentine sunflower production forecasts to 3.2 million metric tons, the smallest crop in over three years.
A smaller Argentine crop reduces global sunflower oil and meal exports, giving price support to US sunflower seed and competing meal and oil markets.
