International rice prices have risen to a six-year high as drought keeps output low in key exporters Thailand and Vietnam. Saltwater damage and urbanization are also reducing production, and panic buying linked to the coronavirus pandemic is tightening supply.
Lower exporter output combined with stockpiling demand tightens the global rice supply, supporting higher export prices and raising feed-grade rice and broken-rice costs for buyers.
