India's cabinet approved an expansion of its Public Distribution System, adding 2 kg of subsidized grains per person per month during the national lockdown. The government will also let states draw food grains from central stocks in advance.
Large state stockpiling and extra subsidized distribution absorb domestic wheat and rice supplies, reducing what is available for export and supporting Indian grain prices.
