Government data showed the nutrient-based fertilizer subsidy payout fell about 38% during April-September, while the urea payout dropped 6%. The Fertilizer Ministry raised rabi 2024 subsidies, including a special package of Rs 3,500 per tonne for DAP to stabilise its price for farmers.
Lower global fertilizer prices reduced subsidy costs, and India is increasing support to keep DAP affordable and maintain procurement. The policy aims to cap farm-level costs, which limits the price impact on DAP and urea demand.
