Argentina's main farm groups will hold a four-day sales strike to protest a tax hike on soybeans, soymeal and soyoil, raised to 33% from 30%. Analysts report dryness beginning to hurt soybean yields as harvest starts.
The government's tax move is part of its plan to restructure about US$100 billion of debt.
Suspended sales reduce near-term export availability of soy products, supporting prices. Dryness-related yield concerns could add further upward pressure if harvest results disappoint.
