The US dollar edged higher after Fed Chair Jerome Powell rejected negative interest rates as a policy tool and warned of an extended period of weak growth. The dollar index rose 0.23% to 100.26 on the day, and traders trimmed bets on sub-zero rates.
Expectations of no negative rates support the dollar's yield advantage, which tends to pressure dollar-priced commodities and can lift emerging-market currency pressure that raises local import costs for feed.
