The May 12 WASDE raised 2020 milk production to 222.2 billion pounds on higher cow numbers. It raised the Class III price forecast on higher cheese and whey prices, lowered the Class IV forecast, and set the 2020 all-milk price at $14.55 per cwt.
Prices for 2021 were forecast higher.
A larger US milk supply adds to dairy output that feeds into byproduct and feed demand, while the higher Class III forecast supports dairy prices. The 2021 outlook of higher prices implies firmer dairy-sector economics ahead.
