The FAO Food Price Index rose 1.9% to 133.3 points in August, its highest level since November 2022 and its second straight monthly gain. Cereal prices rose 2.2% and vegetable oil prices rose 0.6%, led by palm and soy oil, while sugar jumped 11.9%.
Higher cereal and vegetable oil prices raise the cost of feed energy and protein ingredients, and palm and soy oil strength supports oilseed-based feed costs. Concerns about Black Sea export flows and crop weather add to upward pressure.
