Analyst Ray Grabanski said soil moisture in the Corn Belt is dropping at the fastest pace in decades, with almost no rain in recent weeks. Sorghum good-to-excellent ratings fell 7% to 48%, and corn fell 4% to 71%, producing the yield model's first significant loss of 2.17 bu/acre.
He compared the estimated losses to the 2012 drought year.
Falling crop ratings and a drought-driven yield model loss point to tighter corn and sorghum supplies, which is bullish for feed grain prices.
