CME live cattle futures rallied to a near six-month high of 110.15 cents/lb on August 13 as China increased US beef purchases to 1,927 tonnes, the largest volume since 2002. Boxed beef prices and packer margins also rose.
Strong export demand and higher beef values support cattle prices and encourage herd expansion, which tends to support feed grain demand over time.
