China's tariff exclusions under the Phase One agreement have boosted US sorghum export demand. Export commitments have more than doubled the volume sold in 2018/19, and China accounts for about 75 percent of US commitments.
Sorghum prices have reached their highest levels since July 2015.
Heavy Chinese buying against shrinking US domestic sorghum acres tightens supply and lifts prices, which feed buyers will face through the harvest. Sorghum has been trading at a slight discount to corn, but that gap has narrowed.
