The Kansas City Fed Manufacturing index fell to -9 in August from 7 in July, its lowest since spring 2020, and the Composite Index also dropped sharply. Separately, European fertilizer plants in Bulgaria, Lithuania and the UK suspended operations due to natural gas costs, following earlier shutdowns in Germany and Poland.
The US dollar traded near 108.6 and crude oil near $94.6.
Weak US manufacturing data points to softer demand and a firmer dollar, which weighs on commodity prices, while European fertilizer closures tighten nitrogen supply and support feed input costs.
