USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service now publishes separate Iowa and Missouri direct feeder cattle reports, giving more localized calf prices. Iowa auctions handled about 385,000 feeder cattle in 2020, down 8% from 2019.
Better local price data helps producers value calves, but the report itself has little direct price impact; higher feeding costs are noted as a offset to smaller calf crops.
