A study in Nature Food modeled how export restrictions by three key exporters of each crop could raise wheat prices by about 70%, maize by 40% and rice by 60%. Combined with local production shocks, prices could nearly double.
The findings show how quickly export restrictions by a few major exporters could lift global grain prices. This is a scenario analysis rather than a new policy, so its near-term price impact is limited.
