Russia plans to double its wheat export tax to €50/t between 1 March and 30 June, and there is talk of further volume curbs into the new marketing season. Consultancy IKAR cut its 2020/21 Russian wheat export forecast to 37.5 million tonnes because of the tax.
European wheat prices paused after reaching a 7.5-year high.
A higher Russian export tax and possible volume curbs reduce supply from a major exporter, which supports global wheat prices and raises the cost of imported feed grains. Export pricing is uncertain until the policy is clarified.
