Fleet movements on parts of the Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois and Lower Mississippi rivers were suspended in response to snow and ice storms. Downbound grain barge movements for the week ending February 13 were 679,681 tons, down 14% week over week.
Industry expects logistical challenges to continue.
Suspended river traffic constrains grain movement despite strong export demand, pushing barge rates higher and widening interior basis. Buyers should expect firmer freight costs and delivery delays.
