Trase published analysis supporting a WWF Europe report on tropical deforestation tied to EU agricultural imports. In 2017 the EU was responsible for 16% of tropical deforestation linked to international trade, behind only China.
Soy, palm oil and beef had the largest embedded deforestation between 2005 and 2017.
The findings add pressure for EU rules that could restrict imports of soy, palm oil and beef from deforestation-linked supply chains. Any tightening would be a longer-term factor for these feed and oil markets rather than an immediate price driver.
