CME Group commentary says biofuel demand growth, driven by EU RED II mandates, is tightening feedstocks such as soybean oil and waste oils. Biodiesel and HVO producers are competing for limited supplies, and US soybean oil prices have risen sharply.
Competition for vegetable oil feedstocks supports soybean oil and other vegetable oil prices, which in turn lifts the value of meal-oil crush economics. Feed buyers face higher fat and oil costs.
