Statistics Canada's principal field crop report projects Canadian farmers will seed 1.8% more area to field crops in 2021/22, with canola and barley gaining at the expense of wheat, oats and pulses. Total wheat area is forecast to fall 6.9% to 9.41 million hectares, the lowest in four seasons.
A smaller Canadian wheat crop tightens exporter supplies and supports wheat prices, while the shift toward canola and barley changes feed grain availability.
