Non-GMO seed and grain suppliers in the U.S. say they could supply Mexico's demand for non-GMO corn if the market incentives are right. Mexico's government says the ban aims to protect native corn varieties and reduce glyphosate use.
If U.S. suppliers shift to non-GMO corn for Mexico, some export demand could be preserved, but any shift would be gradual and at a premium, so the price effect is limited.
