OPEC and its non-OPEC allies agreed to phase out 5.8 million barrels per day of production cuts by September 2022, with increases of 400,000 barrels per day each month from August. The group cited clear signs of improving demand and falling OECD stocks.
The IEA estimated a 1.5 million barrel per day shortfall in the second half of 2021.
Gradual supply restoration is intended to cap the price rally while the market remains tight. Monthly increases of 400,000 barrels per day are a steady bearish weight on crude.
