The European Commission passed Regulation EU 2021/1372, published in the Official Journal on August 18, allowing limited use of processed animal protein from pigs and insects in poultry feed, poultry protein in pig feed, and ruminant gelatin and collagen in non-ruminant feed. The rules take effect in September under strict cross-contamination and official control conditions.
Wider permitted use of processed animal protein gives EU feed formulators more protein options, modestly reducing demand for soybean meal and other protein meals.
