France's farm ministry lowered its 2021 soft wheat crop estimate to 36.69 million tonnes from 37.10 million, still 25.8% above last year. Barley was raised to 11.69 million tonnes, and the first maize forecast came in at 12.88 million tonnes, down 3.2%.
A smaller French wheat crop tightens EU export supplies, though yields are well above last year, which limits the price impact. Concerns over wet-weather quality damage could push millers and buyers toward other origins.
