The US House passed an appropriations bill in late July providing $8.66 billion for Army Corps civil works, including $22.5 million for construction under the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program on the Upper Mississippi. The Senate has not yet acted on fiscal 2022 appropriations.
Funding for new locks and efficiency upgrades could reduce future barge delays for corn and soybean shipments, but the effect is long-term and the bill is not yet law.
