Rail auction bids, barge spot rates, ocean freight and diesel prices all trended higher in the third quarter.
Weak grain movement on rail and river reduces transport demand, but rising barge, ocean freight and diesel costs lift the cost of moving grain. The net effect is higher freight costs for buyers and wider Gulf basis.
