The EIA reported the national average diesel price rose 8.5 cents to $3.671 a gallon, up 26.5 cents over three weeks. Gasoline also climbed 5.5 cents to $3.322, and EIA expects diesel demand to rise further next year as trucking clears pandemic-era delivery backlogs.
Rising diesel and gasoline prices raise trucking costs for feed ingredients and finished feed. Expected stronger diesel demand in 2022 suggests the price pressure may persist.
