Boparan, Britain's largest chicken producer, says the 20-year era of cheap food is ending. It cites feed, veterinary and wage costs up 15-20%, energy and CO2 costs up more than 500% year on year, packaging up 20% in six months, and an acute trucker shortage.
It warns food inflation could reach double digits.
Rising feed and input costs are being passed through the chain, which supports higher chicken and meat prices in the UK and firms feed demand for grain and protein meals.
