The Philippine Department of Agriculture, the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority and the Fertilizer Industry Association of the Philippines met virtually on November 17, 2021 to address rising fertilizer prices. Industry representatives said European gas shortages cut domestic fertilizer output there, and China curtailed fertilizer exports as energy costs rose.
Tighter global nitrogen and phosphate supply from Europe and China keeps fertilizer costs elevated, which raises production costs for feed grain growers and can shift planting decisions toward lower-input crops.
