U.S. supplies give China muscle to become major force in global LNG trade

China's LNG imports rose 18% last year to a record 79 million tonnes, overtaking Japan as the world's largest buyer. Growth was attributed to economic recovery from COVID-19 and a pipeline reform that let more firms import gas.
