Shell said the global LNG market will remain tight in 2022 after 2021 trade grew 6% to 380 million tonnes. It cited low storage, supply uncertainty and reduced investment as drivers of high prices, with benchmarks around $25 per mmBtu.
A tight LNG balance supports high global gas prices, which raises energy and fertilizer production costs and can support related commodity prices.
