China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a coordination meeting on March 22, 2022 to discuss hog production, with seven departments participating. Officials said pork supply is abundant, pork prices are in a cyclical decline, and feed raw material prices have surged, leaving hog producers operating at a loss.
The ministry called for provincial and city-level responsibility measures to stabilize output and secure supply.
