The rupee has lost about 7% of its value against the dollar this year and hit its weakest level ever. India's energy import bill has risen as crude, natural gas and coal prices climbed after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Global uncertainty has also lifted the dollar to a 20-year high against major trading partners' currencies.
A weaker rupee makes dollar-priced energy and imported inputs more expensive for India, and it can change the pace of Indian buying of oilseeds, feed ingredients and vegetable oils. Indian buyers face higher landed costs.
