India, the largest rice exporter, is considering curbs on overseas rice shipments as global demand rises and domestic requirements grow. Officials said exports are being monitored after the government banned wheat exports in May.
A possible Indian rice export ban would remove a large share of world supply, which is about 40 percent of the global rice trade, and would likely push global rice prices higher.
