Weekly urea prices in New Orleans rose almost 7% to their highest since May as an energy crunch in Europe pushed up natural gas, the main input. Europe's fertilizer industry closed or curtailed output at 10 plants in July as operating costs soared.
Gas-driven European output cuts tighten nitrogen supply, lifting urea prices and raising feed-grain production costs that flow through to corn and feed buyers.
