The Dollar Index rose to 108.17 in the week before August 25, its biggest weekly gain since April 2020, as investors sought safe-haven inflows after weak Chinese data and China's surprise rate cut. The State Bank of Vietnam is holding the USD/VND selling price at 23,400 and increasing foreign currency sales to stabilise the dong.
A firmer dollar tends to pressure dollar-priced feed commodities and raises the local-currency cost of imported feed inputs for Vietnamese buyers, while analysts expect the dollar's rise to slow in the second half.
