The National Milk Producers Federation board unanimously endorsed proposed changes to the Federal Milk Marketing Order pricing system at its October 25 meeting. The proposals include returning to the higher-of Class I mover, dropping barrel cheese from the protein formula, and updating make allowances.
Changes to federal milk pricing formulas would alter how producers are paid, but the proposal is not yet final and must go to a USDA hearing, so near-term price impact is limited.
