Rabobank's Global Animal Protein Outlook 2023 expects fish oil and fishmeal prices to ease from 2022 highs as supply increases. Peru's December–March anchovy quota was set 11.5% above the prior year, and European quotas are improving.
Fishmeal reached about US$1,600/tonne and fish oil surpassed US$3,000/tonne in 2022.
Larger Peruvian and European quotas add supply to marine proteins, which should pressure fishmeal and fish oil prices lower from record levels. Rabobank cautions that tight terrestrial feed supplies could limit the decline.
