Pakistani rice processors have sharply increased working-capital borrowing, rising 62% from September to December 2022. Meanwhile USDA forecasts Pakistan's 2022-23 rice output at 6.6 million tonnes, and exports fell 23% in the first six months of the fiscal year.
Lower Pakistani output and exports reduce supply available to global rice markets, supporting prices for Asian rice exports.
