The rupiah fell 49 points, or 0.33%, to Rp 14,843 per US dollar on April 18, 2023, as US Treasury yields rose. Two-year yields were near 4% and the dollar index rose to about 102, with markets pricing a high chance of a 25 basis point Fed hike in early May.
Higher US yields and a stronger dollar pressure emerging-market currencies, raising the rupiah cost of imported feed ingredients. The move reflects expectations of tighter US policy rather than a change in commodity supply.
