Canadian researchers at the National Research Council, working with Corteva Agriscience, used conventional mutagenesis to develop more than 50 canola lines with higher protein, lower fiber and fewer anti-nutritional compounds. Current canola meal contains about 37% protein.
If commercialized, higher-protein, lower-fiber canola meal could raise its feed value and competitiveness against soybean meal, though the effect on prices is years away.
