Sterling fell for a fifth straight day on September 26 as rising US bond yields lifted the dollar, trading near its lowest since March. The pound was still about 18% above its record low of a year earlier, after the Truss government's mini-budget.
Persistent dollar strength against sterling and the euro supports the US dollar index, which generally pressures dollar-priced grains and oilseeds and can cap export demand from the UK and Europe.
