Feed grain prices in Western Canada continued to fall as harvest wrapped up, with barley down about $70 per tonne. Analysts cited lower overseas demand after China removed tariffs on Australian barley, and corn substituting for barley in feed rations.
Some demand is expected from southern Alberta feedlots over the coming months.
Weak export demand and corn substitution keep pressure on Canadian feed barley, while prospective feedlot buying may provide some support. Feed buyers may find near-term barley values attractive.
