Senate Agriculture Chair Debbie Stabenow said she expects $4 to $5 billion in new funding for the next farm bill, mainly for commodity and crop insurance programs. She also said Congress will need a one-year extension of the 2018 farm bill by year-end.
The White House requested $56 billion in supplemental spending, including $2.8 billion for agricultural disaster aid and $1 billion for Food for Peace.
Additional farm bill funding and disaster aid could support producer incomes and planting decisions. Food aid purchases could add modest export demand for U.S. commodities.
