Brazil says EU deforestation rules are hampering negotiations on a trade deal with the Mercosur bloc. EU lawmakers approved the regulations in April, requiring producers of soy, beef, coffee and wood to prove their supply chains are deforestation-free.
Friction over the EU rules could delay Mercosur trade liberalisation and keep compliance costs on Brazilian soy and beef exports. The price effect is modest and mainly a trade-policy signal.
