The NCBA strongly opposes USDA's decision to allow Paraguayan beef imports starting next month. It cites Paraguay's foot-and-mouth disease history and a risk assessment based on site visits more than nine years old.
Opening the US to Paraguayan beef adds import supply to an already tight market, though volumes are small. Any FMD concern could trigger future trade restrictions that disrupt cattle and beef markets.
