Texas A&M's Joe Outlaw says the farm bill remains unfinished and producers should make the best use of the current safety net. He expects a new bill in 2024 but not in 2023, given the political climate.
He says the window before primary season is limited.
Continued delay leaves producers relying on existing programs, which can influence risk management and planting decisions. Any eventual bill would shape the long-run support available to feed grain and oilseed growers.
